Pray 1.0

Begin today’s devotional asking God to open your heart and mind to what He wants you to learn today. Read Jeremiah 29:13.

Stillness is found when our state of mind focuses on rest. Practicing moments of calm, gathering our thoughts, and resting our bodies is an act of worship.  Genesis reminds us on the seventh day God rested. He paused. He looked at all He had created. He reflected. The God of the universe invites us to connect with Him.

A heart and mind pausing to reflect is just what the Psalmist David describes in chapter sixteen verse 7, when he says, “I will praise the Lord who guides me; yes, during the night I reflect and learn.” Taking moments to focus on God and his character gives opportunity to grow in your knowledge.

Two ways to focus on praying, is to first establish a prayer life by organizing your prayer moments.  You’ve done that a few times with this devotional, you’ve accomplished that by writing out your prayers. When you journal, you are bringing order to your words. Seeing them written out in prayer form is an unfolding of a deeper relationship with God. Writing out prayers allow you to follow along as God demonstrates His character in your life.  He will answer prayers, He will remain quiet about others. Through it all you will have a written account of God.

Another way to pray is to recognize your natural tendencies of communication.  What in the world does that mean? Each personality type is unique in your communication style.  Some of us like to talk it out. Some write it out. Some need to think awhile before we speak.  Some listen. So how do you best communicate?

Reflection Questions to work through:
Each day you can choose to bring God into your life. He’s waiting. Are you inviting Him into those moments? Are you slowing down enough to connect with Him?
Today journal a prayer of thanksgiving, praise God for His character, praise Him for the big things, praise Him for the little things.  He wants to hear it all. All our praise is for His glory.

Today set up a few reminders on your phone or with sticky notes to pray throughout day.
