Victory over Mind

Remember back a few days ago of this Devotion, when I said “One person will have victory, one will be defeated?” Girls, listen, Jesus is the one who claimed victory, Satan has been defeated. First John 3:8 says, “The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” Jesus came to reverse the devil’s schemes. Jesus is our reason to hope. We can have confidence knowing “The God of Peace will soon crush Satan under your feet,” Romans 16:20a says.

Christ has set us free from comparison, perfectionism, peer pressure, even cultural expectation. Where is your heart settling? Is your mind consumed with the latest social media scrolls? Are you focused on uploading overly filtered photos, yet never showing people the real you? Where are you storing up treasures? “For where you treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:34 NIV) God desires our hearts to be molded and used by Him for His glory and to further His kingdom.  He longs for us to step away from worldly distractions and lies of satan to stand fully with Him.

As girls with the swirling emotions, your mind will twist and turn thoughts against your own foundation of beliefs. Foundational beliefs come from Scripture. Studying The Bible is called theology.  And with theology we can learn what God has spoken of Himself. He wants you to firm up your knowledge of His Son and His Word because it is the source of all wisdom. Wisdom is a fancy word for having a sound mind, being thoughtful, controlling the emotions, and applying God’s principles to you life.

Colossians 2:2-3 (NET) says, “My (Paul) goal is that their hearts, having been knit together in love, may have all the riches that assurance brings in their understanding of the knowledge of the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” You have been given this Great Treasure- Jesus! He has bridged the gap between you and God. We are not people of the Old Testament wandering the desert, no, no, no! We are New Testament believers with a knowledge of The Savior!

He’s the difference in your heart and in your response.  We make the choice to control ourselves.  “Love the Lord you God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 NIV) This is a verse you should commit to memory. This reminder will come to you when you’re feeling down. Maybe when anxiety comes creeping in, this verse is one to remember!

What’s it going to take for you to take action? Once you decide to take action, you’ll grow. Your love for God will surround you and give you courage and peace and hope and the promise of eternity! Grow closer to God and His plan for you to flourish here on earth. Do life His way, following His Word. Everything you learn about Him will give you confidence here on earth.

Prayer
I call on the Name of the Lord, the Master and Sustainer of Life! God, will you help me stay consistent in reading Your Word?  Will You gather me close and show me who You are? May I fall more in love with you than anyone or thing here on earth.  As I learn to see myself the way You see me and gather strength from You, may satan stand down and You rise up in my life. Amen.
