Quiet. Quieter. Quieting.
Quiet. The sound of nothing. “Silence is deafening,” but what if silence is an opportunity to pause? Think about the noise at a football game. When the noise is loud, your ears naturally tune into that sound. Your ears pick up the kid who is chanting the team name. Your ears pickup the laughter from the girls next to you. Now picture the moment a crucial play happens and everyone pauses from their cheering and talking as they await to hear the referee’s ruling. Right there, in that moment, it became quiet. Quiet just for a moment.
Quieter. Now think about waking up in the middle of the night. The sound you hear won’t be the screaming fans at a football game. Nope, you’ll hear the hum of a fan or the beating of your heart in your own ears. These noises offer a calm of something familiar, something you’ve heard before, maybe these quieter noises even bring you comfort.
Quieting. Stillness is found when you stop moving, stop talking, quiet your mind, surrender your heart, and silence the noise around you. Quieting down is an action. Gentle streams carry along a slow steady current of the water. God’s Word says in John 7:38 in the CSB, “The one who believes in me, as the Scriptures have said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.” So then if God says when we faith in Him, He will carry us along with peace. The streams will flow, not rushing crashing waves. Streams from the Living Water, Jesus told this to the Samaritan woman in John 4:9-15. Jesus is your Living Water.
God is longing to be that in your life, The One and Only Presence to be near you as you go about each day. Each moment of your life, He will be there, He will be your constant companion and friend. And He will carry you along when life seems to heavy to walk on, He’ll pick you up.

Prayer
Pause. Take some deep breaths and calm your mind. Journal some things that are noisy in your life right now. Ask God to still your mind and heart. This is a great time to pray when there is quiet and you can focus.
